Thursday, April 14th Art Soiree kicked off its Spring/Summer 2011 season at a Georgetown block party, where South Beach Chic was mixed with ART.
It also happened to be an exclusive opening night of PURO LOUNGE – Outside Patio. This European inspired, chic-oasis in the heart of Georgetown is a posh find – modern, fashionable and truly unforgettable – just as the night to come! The evening featured a multimedia presentation by Donald Syriani, a perfect fusion of his taste for modern music and his contemporary photographic vision, special live performance by Sheena Alexis and vintage fashion show by Sandro & TARI BOUTIQUE, hair design by VIOLET SALON!
Donald Syriani, born in Columbia to Syrian parents, an engineer by profession, is part DJ part photographer by passion. His work fuses his twin love of art and photography, spilling into the world of fashion, interiors, and design, with an emphasis on atmosphere and effect. Through his controlled use of strong colors, shifting light and ambiguous forms, Syriani experiments with various aesthetic arrangements and introduces new shapes into the modern space. Inspired by modernism as well as minimalism, the result is photographs posing as paintings, blurring the lines between the ordinary and imaginary, and going beyond the actual towards the possible.
Sheena Alexis, a singer/songwriter from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, made her way up to DC for college and work back in ’04. She began singing the National Anthem for the Mystics and Nationals at both the Verizon Center and RFK Stadium shortly after. In ’07 she started performing regularly at local venues. Late in ’08 she received the opportunity to perform the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks. Now, she’s back in DC and is working on her first album due to release in July. “Everything I write is straight from my heart and every time I get on stage to perform I feel more at home than any place I’ve ever lived.” -Sheena Alexis
To make the event more exciting, TARI, the designer, vintage, couture boutique next door to Puro hosted a fashion show boasting a wide range of brands from Chanel, Chloe, Marc Jacobs and more. Awarded as Best Vintage Store in Washington City Paper’s Best of DC 2011, TARI distinctly fulfills the crave for vintage couture of fashion forward Washingtonians.
